All courses below are refresher-only at this time, delivered on-site anywhere in New Zealand. Every price is shown in full so there are no surprises when you request a quote.
For operators who already hold a gantry crane qualification and need to keep their skills, hazard awareness and compliance current. Ideal for workplaces preparing for an audit or renewing internal safety records.

For crane truck operators renewing their operating competency, particularly where crews are loading and unloading on varied ground conditions.

For dogmen directing standard crane lifts, responsible for sling selection, load control and clear signalling to the crane operator using radio and hand signal communication methods.

NZTA-Approved · Full Certification Available
Required by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) for heavy haulage operators (including crane operators) who need to legally operate heavy vehicles over bridges under an overweight permit. This is the only course where full certification is currently delivered by Datum Training.
You must complete the BESS driver application so NZTA can check your licence and driving history.

We take you through bridge permit conditions, self-supervision rules, and compliance, then complete the assessment.
Once you pass, we submit the assessment outcome to NZTA.
You receive your BESS ID/registration, which legally allows you to self-supervise bridge crossings.
Best done at least 6–8 weeks before your card expires.
Your driver licence and your current BESS ID card.
Valid for another 5 years.
Travel & Logistics
We're based in Rotorua and travel nationwide. Here's exactly how travel and group size affect your quote.
$0.90 per kilometre, calculated from our Rotorua base. Accommodation at $180/night applies for any course 150km+ from Rotorua.
Always charged to the client. We book flights on your behalf where needed; rental vehicles are booked and paid for by you.
4 participants minimum per course. Groups below 4 will incur travel costs regardless of distance from Rotorua.
